X-SOG

So I've been a long time member of a Vietnam Wargaming forum called Fields of Fire: Reloaded.  They are a bunch of great guys and we have developed a great internet friendship over the years.  Anyway, we have a contest on occasions with a specific theme.  This go around it was Weird Vietnam.  It's not something I think I would game, but when I started thinking about the contest I immediately thought of the X-Men.  One of the hard things was trying to decide if I wanted Free World Forces (FWF) mutants or VietCong mutants.  Either way you could have a interesting story!  But, it was my desire to have a Wolverine-esque character that lead me to this group.  So here's my entry.  A SOG (Studies and Observation Group) team made up of mutants.

All the miniatures are from The Assault Group with some slight modifications using green-stuff and other handy items.

X-SOG Team

The Devil

He has above normal strength, but his greatest abilities are his empathetic and psychic abilities that make him great at manipulating people.  He is the group's leader mostly for his ability to be able to maintain control of this group's individualistic and volatile natures.  He's an intelligent and cunning foe.  Some folks will tell you he got his name from his skin color and tail, but most will tell it's because of the deals he will talk you into doing...

Shredder
Fast regenerative powers.  Tough as nails.  He's called the shredder because he can produce a metal set of claws from each hand.

Rage
A berserker with super-human powers and retractable animal claws. Once he gets the "rage" it's best to just let him do his thing until he's back to normal.  Luckily for the safety and success of their missions, Devil has the ability to calm down Rage rather quickly.
Toadie
Probably the weakest member in regards to combat, the Toadie makes up for it in pure craftiness.  He can get in and out of the worst terrain and has can hide anywhere with his chameleon like abilities.  Having a tongue that can reach anything within 18 feet is rather handy too.

That was a fun diversion.  Hope you guys get a smile out of it.

Strelkovy - 1st Platoon

Moving along with my Soviet horde, I'm now working on my 1st Company of Strelkovy.  I have the option of having 3 platoons in each Strelkovy company.  For now I just decided to go with 2 platoons per company.  That's still a lot of figures to paint, but I might eventually expand each to 3 platoons.  We'll see.  There's no rush that's for sure.

A Strelkovy platoon (mid-war) has 9 rifle stands and 1 command stand.

Now I have to buy more troops, so while I'm waiting to get the next round of Strelkovy I'll pull some other stuff out of my lead pile and get to painting.

Eastern Front Log Cabin

For my Flames of War Eastern Front campaign I started shopping around for some terrain.  I wanted to have some buildings to scatter around the battlefield.  I found a company called Mark IV Miniatures that has some really nice buildings.  I ordered a couple just to see what they would look like in person.  You never know when this stuff will be hit or miss.

Anyway, this is the first of the two log cabins I ordered.  I really like the look of it.  What's really neat is that it has an interior too.  It was really easy to paint up and I'm quite pleased with this purchase.  I think I'll be picking up a few more buildings in the near future.

More stuff coming soon.  Hope you all are having a good week.

Office Display for My Wife

A while back, my wife made a plant display for me to take to my office.  My hobby is miniatures and games.  My wife's hobby is orchids.  She has a lot of orchids.  Think about your lead pile... paint it green and go roots.  That's her orchid collection.  Anyway, so she shared her hobby with me and I get to see it every day at the office.  It's a Japanese orchid called a Neofinitia Falcata "Fugaku".

I thought it would be fun to do the same for her.  So I let her pick out a miniature.  She found one she liked from Dark Sword miniatures.  I intended it to be a "pretty" display, but when I had finished the figure she stated, "Where's the blood?  Shouldn't she be dirty?"  And so I went and made her look like she'd been in a fight.  Next request was for there to be a body covered in blood.  I found this pirate at Reaper and immediately started chopping him up to fit on the display as a casualty.  The rest is all milliput, rocks, dirt and a mixture of static grass and silfur tufts.

Anyway, it was a lot of work and I'm pretty proud of it.  I think she enjoyed getting to have a say in  how it's built.  Fun project, but now I'm ready to get back to WW2.  Hope you guys like it.

Thanks for stopping by.
